The manufacturing process of watermarked paper

Traditional papermaking techniques involve two core methods:

Paper Screen Weaving Method:

Raised patterns woven with silk threads are added to the bamboo papermaking screen. The varying thickness of the pulp during papermaking creates translucent, visible patterns.

Die Imprinting Method:

A carved wooden die is pressed onto the wet paper, altering the fiber density to create subtle patterns.

Key aspects of the process include controlling the dye formulation ratio (affecting the width and shape of the texture) and waxing and calendering the paper (enhancing the texture's visibility). The difference between calendered paper and watermarked paper lies in the pressure: calendered paper creates translucent, subtle patterns through pressing, while watermarked paper emphasizes linear decoration.
