Sterilization Paper

Sterilization Paper
Details:
Sterilization Paper is a specialized medical packaging material designed for medical devices, surgical instruments, and other products requiring terminal sterilization. Its core function is not "direct sterilization," but rather, as part of a sterilization packaging system or aseptic barrier system, it allows the applicable sterilization medium to fully penetrate during sterilization, while providing a microbial barrier and physical protection for the packaged contents after sterilization, thus helping to maintain the product's sterility before storage, transportation, and use. Relevant medical packaging standards have corresponding requirements for the strength, permeability, porosity, and water resistance of sterilization packaging materials.

• Shelf life: 5 years after factory sealing; 6 months for sterile items after sterilization

Core Functions

Suitable for Sterilization Media Penetration

Sterilization paper needs to meet packaging barrier requirements while possessing air permeability and a porous structure compatible with the target sterilization process. This allows applicable vapors, gases, or other sterilization media to enter the packaging and exit and dry properly after sterilization.

Aseptic Barrier Function

After sterilization, the packaging material needs to help reduce the risk of external microorganisms and contaminants entering the packaging and maintain packaging integrity in conjunction with a complete packaging structure, sealing, and storage conditions.

Good Mechanical Strength

Medical device packaging may be subjected to stretching, friction, compression, and bending during sterilization, handling, storage, and transportation. Therefore, sterilization paper needs to possess good tensile strength, tear strength, and resistance to breakage.

Good Cleanliness

Medical packaging materials need to control loose fibers, particles, and other potential contaminants in the paper to reduce the risk of secondary contamination of medical devices during packaging.

Applicable Sterilization Methods

• ✅ Pressure Steam Sterilization (121℃/15min, 134℃/4min)

• ✅ Ethylene Oxide Sterilization

• ✅ Cobalt-60 Irradiation Sterilization

• ✅ Low-Temperature Formaldehyde Sterilization

× High-Temperature Dry Heat Sterilization is not applicable

Scope of Application

1. Hospital Central Sterile Supply Department: Packaging for dressing packs, catheterization packs, puncture packs, delivery packs, surgical instrument packs, dressing packs, and surgical gowns/drapes;

2. Sterilization and packaging of small instruments in outpatient clinics, operating rooms, dental departments, and endoscopy rooms;

3. Aseptic packaging of finished products in medical device factories;

4. Auxiliary uses: Intraoperative absorbent pads, instrument cushioning and isolation paper.

Weight Selection Guide

• 45–50g Economy: Lightweight, suitable for small dressings and lightweight disposable instruments;

• 60g Standard (Hospital Use): Balanced strength, breathability, and antibacterial properties; suitable for treatment packs and routine surgical packs;

• 70–80g Thickened: More tear-resistant; suitable for heavy instruments, large dressing packs, and items requiring repeated transport.

FAQ

Q: What is Sterilization Paper mainly used for?

A: It is mainly used for the sterilization packaging of surgical instruments, medical devices, medical tools, disposable medical supplies, and related products in hospital CSSDs (Central Sterilization Supply Departments).

Q: Is Sterilization Paper breathable?

A: Yes. Professional sterilization paper typically needs to have appropriate breathability and pore structure to allow compliant sterilization media to enter the packaging while simultaneously fulfilling its barrier function.
