In the food packaging industry, white kraft paper, with its environmentally friendly, high-strength, and biodegradable properties, is gradually becoming an ideal alternative to traditional plastic packaging. Food-grade white kraft paper is even more safety-certified, making it a dedicated packaging material that can directly contact food. So, what specific types of this packaging paper are there? And what are their respective applications?

Single-sided glossy white kraft paper

This is one of the most common types of food-grade white kraft paper. Its characteristic is that the surface is calendered, resulting in uniform whiteness on one side and retaining the natural color of kraft paper on the other. Single-sided glossy white kraft paper has good printability, making it suitable for printing clear product information, logos, or patterns on a white surface, and its cost is relatively low.

Double-sided glossy white kraft paper
Both sides are calendered, resulting in uniform whiteness and a smooth surface. Its strength and toughness are superior to single-sided glossy versions. Because both sides can be printed, it is often used for food packaging requiring high print quality, such as high-end snack gift boxes and tea packaging boxes, enhancing the overall texture of the packaging.

Oil-resistant white kraft paper: Through special coating or processing, it possesses excellent oil-resistant properties and can directly contact oily foods (such as fried chicken, French fries, sauce packets, etc.). Its core advantage is its ability to effectively block oil penetration, preventing food packaging leakage or contamination, while maintaining a clean packaging appearance.

Moisture-resistant white kraft paper: After moisture-resistant treatment, it can block moisture to a certain extent, making it suitable for dry goods, baked goods (such as biscuits, nuts), and other products requiring moisture protection. Especially in humid environments, it can extend the shelf life of food, maintain its crispness, and prevent the food inside the packaging from becoming damp and soft.

Unbleached natural white kraft paper: Retaining the natural light brown color of kraft paper, it has not undergone bleaching treatment, has no added fluorescent agents, and is more biodegradable. This type of paper is often used by brands emphasizing a "natural and environmentally friendly" concept, such as the inner packaging of organic foods and healthy snacks, reducing environmental impact while meeting consumers' safety needs.

Composite white kraft paper is made by combining different materials, such as "white kraft paper + PE coating." It combines the environmental friendliness of white kraft paper with the waterproof and oil-resistant properties of PE, making it suitable for packaging liquid foods (such as small packages of yogurt and juice) or foods requiring leak-proof packaging, thus broadening its applicability.

When choosing food-grade white kraft paper, it's essential to consider the characteristics of the food (whether it contains oil, whether moisture protection is required) and packaging needs (printing quality, load-bearing capacity). Look for the "food contact material" certification mark to ensure safety and non-toxicity. Using white kraft paper appropriately can enhance the quality of food packaging and contribute to environmental protection.
