Wood Fiber Filter Paper
Wood fiber filter paper is a perennial favorite in the coffee world, made from natural wood pulp. This material has uniform pores, effectively trapping coffee grounds and oils, resulting in a clear and bright coffee flavor. The lightly bleached version has a natural off-white color, while the unbleached version retains a faint original wood pulp color; both have minimal impact on flavor. It's recommended to rinse the filter paper with hot water before use to remove any potential pulp taste and to ensure better adhesion to the filter cup.

Cotton and Linen Blend Filter Paper
Cotton and linen blend filter paper is woven from natural cotton and linen fibers, making it thicker and more durable than regular filter paper. Its slightly larger fiber gaps allow more coffee oils to pass through, making it suitable for those who prefer a fuller flavor. This material can be reused 3-5 times; simply rinse with water and air dry after each use. Since it contains no chemical adhesives, it won't impart any off-flavors to the coffee, but brewing time will be slightly longer than with regular filter paper.
Metal Filters
Metal filters are typically woven from stainless steel with a fine and uniform mesh. Unlike paper filters, metal filters do not filter coffee oils at all, preserving the coffee's original flavor characteristics. They are reusable after a simple rinse, making them very economical and environmentally friendly. However, metal filters require a relatively fine grind of coffee grounds; too fine grounds may leak through the mesh, affecting the taste. It is recommended to use them with a medium-coarse grind for best results.
